Sunday June 30th International Ceramics Fair Maaseik 2019. Over a 100 ceramic artists in the center of this historic city in Belgian Limburg. Who is coming? Many acquaintances from this frog country -as we say in the Netherlands-, and yes I also will be there.
It has been a few years when I participated in this ceramics fair. I am curious to see what will happen this time. The ambiance is always good and the organization by the municipality is, as usual, top notch!

Burgundian ambiance
The grass is always greener at our southern neighbors, so I like to visit as often as I can. Despite being just a stone’s throw away from the Dutch border, there is a difference.
This ceramics fair is a great opportunity for us to take the weekend off and enjoy the Burgundian ambiance.
This traditionally lively trading city lies on the border of the Maas on the Dutch-Belgian border. In early times the Maas was the lifeblood of the city, now it is a beautiful nature reserve.
Historical place, contemporary ceramics
Since prehistoric times, there has been trade on the spot where Maaseik has risen. There are urns found from the Iron Age and pottery and glassware from Roman times. It grew into a trade center in the Middle Ages with various markets. Rightfully a historical trading place.
The merchandise of the past is no longer, but the ceramics fair is back. And I am happy to contribute to that. Now I just have to decide what I will bring. I think that in addition of new ceramic sculptures, I also take a number of dishes and cups with me. Recently I have made several different cups with newly developed glazes.
I am very curious what the visitors of the ceramics fair are going to say about these.
