I cannot avoid my ceramics connectivity, that turned out to be true once again. Last Friday in Purmerend the Summer Art Event took place. As a Purmerender (dutch for a citizen of Purmerend) I have also made a (very) modest contribution to this activity in the city.
On Thursday evening I brought two ceramic sculptures for the exhibition in the Lutherse kerk. The organization of the event was in full swing. I could confine myself having a chat with the “usual suspects”, getting to know new people and maintaining old contacts; art connects in action.
Artists often show us life in a way that we instinctively recognize without being able to give words. It is the recognition of deep-rooted emotions that create a connection between work of art and viewer or listener.

I had to think about the opening speech at the Art Parade in Heiloo, where I participated last weekend. There was also reference to the binding force of art. Not only between the creators, but also for the spectators.
Involved in the city
Great all those involved people who are committed to set up these types of events. It is difficult enough to create in clay, but to find places to connect with people requires at least as much effort. Help in that way is very much appreciated by me.
It is also inspiring to hear from the visitors how fun and surprising they find it. Promoters, helping volunteers, visitors and creators; together we let the city buzz. Whether it stimulates the social connections? I think so, certainly in cultural circles.
Connection with Clay
In my work I am always working on connections; with the past, nature, the world and all its raw materials. The connection with clay stands for me in the first place. I play, work and tell my story in clay. Just like humanity has been doing for decades.
That gives me binding, also binding with people. And not just random people, but with people who love ceramics, music, art and culture in general. And as you guessed it, those are just the people I want to meet.
Ceramics Connectivity
I can recommend a connection to art, certainly a life-long ceramics connectivity 😉 Whether it is as an organizer, maker, buyer or spectator, take part in the rich cultural life in your area and the rest of the world.
Yes I know: One life is too short to visit, make and explore everything. Because even though everything is organized, it takes me time and money to participate in this type of activity. So unfortunately, I always have to make choices, to which I take part, what I visit or buy. Well, there is always something to be desired…
P.S. Speaking about time: Coming weeks I’m going to watch ceramics in England at close range. After the summer months there will be new blogs. Until then: have a wonderful summer!
